Meet Sarah and Izzy, the current therapists at Narrative Connections Collective.

We first met as colleagues and quickly connected through our shared commitment to authenticity in our practice. We are excited to step into this new space together.

Our Shared Purpose:

To offer narrative-informed and trauma-informed counselling.
To create a supportive professional community grounded in collaboration and care.
To share systems and resources that make private practice more sustainable.
To contribute to social justice through subsidised counselling for those in need. Please do not hesitate to ask - we can accept payment plans or negotiate reduced fees based on income.

Meet The Team

Social Worker/Counsellor

Sarah Atkinson

Sarah is an accredited social worker with over 12 years’ experience across mental health, counselling, and community contexts.

After completing a Master of Social Work at the University of Western Australia in 2014, Sarah worked within South Australia’s public mental health system in crisis and long-term care roles. She also worked as a narrative therapist at Glenside within the Rural and Remote team. From 2019 to 2023, she lived and worked in North East Arnhem Land, in the beautiful community, Ramingining. While there, she worked in community-based therapeutic work while also becoming a mother and starting independent private practice Narrative Connections. She is accredited as a Mental Health Social Worker through the AASW and is able to offer a medicare rebate.

Sarah currently works as a narrative therapist at an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation in South Australia, providing both phone-based and in-person counselling.

Her practice is and always has been informed by narrative therapy, somatic and neurobiological approaches, trauma-informed practice, systems theory, the Maastricht Approach to Hearing Voices, and Open Dialogue. She is particularly interested in transparency, relational accountability, and collaborative responses to distress, and draws on solution-focused approaches when helpful.

Her work is grounded in a belief in people’s capacity for change. She collaborates with individuals, families, and communities to explore stories across time in ways that honour context, agency, and hope.

Counsellor

Izzy McEvoy

Izzy is an integrative counsellor grounded in narrative and trauma-informed practice. She is registered with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and is passionate about creating therapeutic spaces that feel safe, collaborative, and responsive to each person’s unique story and context.

Izzy has worked with children and young people in youth residential care and now works as a narrative therapist at an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation in South Australia, providing both phone-based and in-person counselling. She has experience supporting people across the lifespan - children, adolescents, and adults.

She believes that everyone is deserving of agency and choice in their lives, and this commitment shapes her collaborative approach to counselling.

She is guided by what clients hope to achieve within the counselling space - this may involve working through trauma, addressing substance use, navigating relationship challenges, or exploring experiences of anxiety and depression.

Izzy integrates creative modalities such as artwork, somatic processing, narrative practices, and therapeutic games alongside more traditional approaches, bringing warmth, curiosity, and care to ensure therapy remains flexible and responsive.
